Project Management.
PRINCE2 defines a project as "a management environment that is created for the purpose of delivering one or more business products according to a specified business case". It should also be noted that a project is a Temporary situation, established purely for the purpose of delivering a product. Once that product has been delivered, the project ends and the product is handed over to the support teams.
Given this definition, a project could be as small as installing an application on an individual workstation or as large installing a multi-million pound application to thousands of users. The principles are the same although the risk and the cost may differ greatly.
Prince2 states that one should tailor the methodology to suit the project; small projects will rarely need the full security and safety that Prince2 can offer. However, it is always wise to consider what methods should be employed, planning and communicating as required. A little effort up front determine what is to be done, how it is to be done and who is to do it normally saves time, cost and tempers.
